New from SIHH 2003 – Vacheron ConstantinHi Folks; I am just back from the SIHH, and I have to say that one of the watches that really “pushed my buttons” was the re-edition of the Toledo from Vacheron Constantin. ![]() Originally made in 1952, the Toledo is a full calendar moonphase equipped with Vacheron’s calibre 1125, which is a 36 jewel, 28,800 bph movement built on a JLC ebauche (which of course is also a V&C tradition). The watch shown above is in yellow gold, whilst the one seen here is in white gold. ![]() As well as the modified JLC ebauche, another great V&C tradition is carried on, as the watch features a guilloche dial centre and contrasting dial textures. The 2 gold models are regular catalogue models, whilst the platinum version shown here is limited to just 100 units and is distinguished by the slate coloured dial. ![]() What I really like about the watch is that it manages to combine the square, rectangle and sphere in one shape; the dial aperture is square, the overall case is rectangular and the top of the case & glass are curved in an almost spherical manner. It also has a nice heft to it, in case you didn’t get the subtext, I liked the watch!! Good Luck James “‘Tis with our judgments as our watches: none Go just alike, yet each believes his own.” Alexander Pope. 4/11/03 |
