Industry News – Swatch Group Price Increases for Movements
The Swatch Group, under fire from various independent watch companies for its recent decision to no longer sell movement blanks, but only the terminated calibres by the end of 2005, finds itself once again, in a controversy for wanting to raise prices on the movements it produces.
Swatch counters that it is facing increasing production costs. The famous Caliber 2824 and the 2671 have seen their price increased by 20%. Other calibers have experienced increases of 1% to 18%.
The Swiss Federal Concurrence Commission (COMCO) has been called in to investigate Swatch’s price increases as anti-competitive.
